Rules & Regulations

    1. The Derby starts 7:00 am on May 1, 2008, and scales close 4:00 pm on June 30, 2008.
    2. Prizes shall consist of $500 per day, a weekly big fish prize and overall big fish of the Derby.  All prizes are final.
    3. The eligible fish species is Chinook Salmon. 
    4. A minimum weight of 9.7 kilos/20 lbs. is required from May 1 to May 31 and 11.34 kilos/25 lbs. from June 1 to June 30.
    5. The heaviest overall salmon entered each day shall receive the daily prize of $500.  Daily fish prize not awarded shall be added to the next day(s) prize.  If a fish prize is not awarded the final day of the Derby and if that weekly prize is not awarded, the prize(s) shall be forwarded to May 1, 2009 and from thereon.
    6. There is no limit to the number of daily or weekly prizes that an angler is eligible to win during the Derby. 
    7. Cheques shall be mailed to the individual prize winners every Friday for the prior week commencing May 16.  All posted winners shall be pending for five (5) days for verification for information given at weigh in.  The Salmon Masters Derby is solely responsible for the provision of the daily prizes.  The Salmon Masters Derby is not responsible for sponsored prizes. 
    8. Charter boat and Boat captains shall hold a boat ticket which will cover the First Mate and all guests.  The cost for a boat ticket is $300.
    9. Individuals must purchase and validate a daily ticket prior to the outing.  You must be in possession of your ticket at all times.  The cost for a daily ticket is $20.
    10. Participants must agree that all persons aboard the same boat must be registered in the derby to be eligible for prizes. The cost for an adult ticket is $75.
    11. Minors under the age of 18 (on or off shore) must be accompanied by a participating adult in order to be eligible for prizes.  The cost for a minor ticket is $25.
    12. A supporting affidavit and proof of ticket will be required when registering a fish affirming the integrity of the catch.
    13. All fishing must be in Lake Ontario, its harbours and adjoining rivers, therefore shoreline anglers are welcome. 
    14. Participants shall abide by fishing regulations of Ontario MNR, the DOT regulations and all municipal by-laws. Non-abiding participants shall be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
    15. Anyone can and should immediately report all suspicious practice or behaviour to derby officials; official weigh stations or call 905-640-2277 (voicemail will suffice). 
    16. All fish must be weighed in at an official Salmon Master Derby weigh station as set out on the website www.salmonmastersderby.com; flyers or posters.  A Salmon Masters Derby fish may also be used for other events and vice versa.
    17. A fish shall be entered only once and shall be marked at the weigh station.
    18. All fish entered must be legally hooked on legal angling tackle.  Any evidence of net, gaff or snag marks, the fish being frozen or gutted or in any way tapered or artificially weighed shall immediately be disqualified. 
    19. Derby officials may hold any fish for examination including biological examination.  Daily prize winners must hold their fish for a period of 7 days to further investigate any discrepancies if necessary.  All fish must be kept intact for the 7 days for further questioning.
    20. All data recorded on the official weigh in form shall be final.  All fish shall be weighed in on the day it was caught or weighed in the following morning if reported prior to midnight in order to be eligible for that day’s prize – 905-640-2277 voicemail is sufficient. 
    21. Participants will be required to sign an affidavit attesting to the validity of any prize winning entry and at the discretion of the Salmon Masters officials may be required to take a polygraph test.  Disqualification shall result if participant refuses to or is found to be unfit to take polygraph test.
    22. If there is a tie based on weight, the winner shall be the first fish entered or reported on the official weigh in forms.
    23. Participants of the derby compete at their own risk.  By paying the entry fee the participant releases Salmon Masters Derby, The Spring Fishing & Boat Show Inc., event sponsors or anyone affiliated with the Salmon Masters Derby from all liability, claims and responsibility of any nature to the participant or his/her heirs, executors, personal representatives, and representatives for any loss or damage of properties or for any injury suffered in any way from this Derby.
    24. All prize winners shall be responsible for the payment of any taxes or duties which are applicable to the prize(s) won. 
    25. Participant agrees that Salmon Masters Derby entrant who enters the prize winning fish will be the sole recipient of cash or merchandise awarded.   
    26. Salmon Masters Derby judges’ decisions are final. 
    27. All ticket sales are final, non-refundable, non-transferable, no exceptions.
    28. By paying the entry fee, each participant acknowledges that he/she has read, understood, and will abide by the rules of this Derby and agrees that failure to comply with any of the rules will result in immediate disqualification, forfeiture of all prizes and the right to enter any future Salmon Masters Derby events.  Salmon Masters Derby reserves the right to deny any participation in its events.

Results available at www.salmonmastersderby.ca are for information purposes only.  Official rulings will be made by Andrew Pallotta.  All winners will be notified by SalmonMasters Derby officials.
